Sandra Iriarte Attorney at Law in Guatemala

Sandra graduated Cum Laude from Francisco Marroquin University as an Attorney-at-Law and Notary in 2005. Following that, she obtained a master's degree in intellectual property at San Carlos de Guatemala University, 2009.  Sandra also has a Master of Laws in Intellectual Property (LLM) from the University of Turin, Italy, and WIPO Academy, Geneva, completed in February 2013. Prior to her joining as associate at Palomo & Porras, she assisted clients in private practice in the energy and telecommunications sectors, assisted in issues related to corporate advisory, administrative planning, and constitutional legal actions. Since becoming a member of the team at Palomo & Porras in 2001, in addition to her intellectual property responsibilities, she has advised our clients in the corporate law area as well.

Currently, she is the Director of our Intellectual Property Department and her practice includes providing counsel regarding administrative procedures of intellectual property rights, including origin denomination, and patents and author rights. Likewise, in coordination with the Department of Litigation of our firm, she advises on the enforcement of those rights, as well as playing a substantive role throughout the IP litigation process.

Sandra is an active member of the Committee of Unfair Competition of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and also serves as the President on the Intellectual Property Committee of the American Guatemalan Chamber of Commerce (AmCham).  Sandra teaches intellectual property at the master's degree level at Galileo University of Guatemala. And, she has taught IP courses and seminars to judges, prosecutors and magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice.
